A solid crowd turned out to watch the match at Captain Oldrey Park, Broulee.
The top of the table Marist team started strongly and scored an early try.
The first points on the board looked to rally the Dolphins to lift to another level in what was a very physical game.
The Broulee forward pack set a great platform to achieve a good quantity of ball.
Through some strong running, the team made metres towards the line against a good defensive opposition and put points on the board for the home side.
The Broulee defence was strong and the entire forward pack pounded Marist continually with powerful tackles.
Good hands in the air gained wins at the line-out against the throw.
Broulee’s scrum-half had to dig the ball out of some hard fought rucks by Marist, delivering clean passes to inside backs.
The Broulee backline fired in the second half, showing some real skill in moving the ball wide and taking on the defence.
As the minutes ticked away, Broulee moved closer to the Marist score line and chip and chase play saw some inspiring runs that lifted spectators on the sideline to their feet.
The final score was Marist 31 Dophins 17.
Broulee Dolphins U18s coach, Peter Louttit was impressed with his team’s performance and declared Saturday’s game the best of the season.
“The game was an entertaining spectacle of how good rugby is played by good men,” Louttit said.
“Our team has improved week after week and we finished the season as a well-structured machine. This team plays in a division where we play good teams every week and we have remained competitive.
“For most of the team this was their last game of junior rugby, we wish them well in their chosen futures.”
The three other Dolphins junior teams now progress to the ACT junior Rugby Union Competition semi-finals to be held in Canberra on Saturday, August 27.
