A large number of hopefuls have nominated to become a councillor or mayor of the shire.
Mayor Lindsay Brown has announced he will run again and hopes to regain his mayoral position.
Clr Brown said he was looking forward to seeing a number of projects completed, including the Moruya Airport and Batemans Bay Bowling Club site.
Ben Potter, of Narooma, is running as a youth candidate. At 18, it is understood he is the youngest ever candidate to run in the shire. “Youth deserve a candidate and a voice,” Mr Potter said.
“I am passionate about that and have been (Eurobodalla) youth of the year twice and on the youth committee.
“We are seen as an ageing shire, but there are still youth in the shire that are under represented.
“It is a bit of a honor to be youngest candidate. My grand father was the first mayor of Hollbrook Shire Council, so it would be a nice if I was elected as the youngest councillor.”
If elected, Mr Potter will sacrifice going to university to study science with a major in geology.
He is closely followed by 20-year-old Todd Leslight of Batemans Bay, who is running as the youth candidate for the Community Action Alliance (CAA) group and has set his sights on developing employment and educational opportunities for shire youth.
Coral Anderson, of Batehaven, is running with the Community Voice Eurobodalla group.
“I believe that honesty is the most important quality to have. From there you can build trust and respect. Without these building blocks, we cannot thrive as a whole community,” she said.
Ms Anderson would like to see changes to the way council meetings are conducted to “encourage more participation by the people in a less intimidating atmosphere”.
