John Marzol was the only local trainer to experience any joy on the day, as his charger, Excellent Oratorio, triumphed by two lengths in the 1435m Maiden Handicap. Moruya Jockey Club manager, Brian Cowden, said the experience of some of the more high profile nominations shone through on the day.
“It was a really strong meeting where a lot of the well-favoured horses came out on top,” he said.
“There were no real surprises in the results, but the racing was high quality. It was great to have trainers come from Warwick Farm and Kembla Grange to take part.”
Kembla Grange trainers, Michelle Ritchie, Theresa Bateup, and Melissa Harrison all tasted success on the day while John Steinmetz and Leanne Aspros from Warwick Farm also had wins.
Moruya Horse Trainer, Chicka Pearson, wasn’t able to reach the heights of his previous outing at Moruya, with Shoulder Charge coming in sixth in the 2000m Benchmark 60 Handicap.
More than 300 people turned out to the Jockey Club for meet which marked the end of the racing season.
Cowden said it will be “business as usual” for the club as they prepare for their next meet.
