Mr Mayne, a self-confessed ‘thespian from way back’ has spoken to many in the community about the possibility and is enthused and encouraged by the response, and wants to establish a theatre which could play in the likes of Moruya, Narooma and Tilba.
“The support has been terrific,” he said.
“River of Art and the Batemans Bay Writers’ Festival are keen.
“There is a a lot of passion and desire in the arts community and a lot of talent waiting for an opportunity.”
He is hoping to replicate the success of Bay Theatre Players in the southern part of the Eurobodalla.
“The Bay Theatre Players do a terrific job in Batemans Bay, and it would be great to have that in Moruya and further south,” he said.

Mr Mayne’s original concept was for a theatre in Moruya, but grew into a mobile theatre.
He is open about what could be performed at the theatre.
“The whole concept is a blank canvas, ideas-wise,” he said.
“We could have Agatha Christie, indigenous plays, stand-up comedy, slam poetry; it is just what the community would like from a playhouse.”
Anyone interested in hearing more and sharing their ideas is invited to an initial get-together at the ‘hall with the red door’ at the corner of Campbell and Page Streets Moruya, between the St John’s Moruya Anglican Church and the Mechanics Institute at 5pm on Thursday August 4.
“I look forward to meeting the stage hands, set designers, poets, producers, actors, directors and writers that have touched base.”
Mr Mayne said he would like to get the theatre happening early next year.
“In a ideal world it would be lovely to be able to have a pantomine at Christmas, and I believe we have the right people with the energy and desire to do it,” he said.
“We will just have to see what we come up with.”
