An outspoken anti-dispersal activist says she understands the “frustration” that led to unknown people writing graffiti in the Water Garden.
Lucy Norman, of Narooma, spoke against dispersal at the June 14 Eurobodalla Shire Council meeting and threatened legal action if it went ahead. She said most dispersal attempts failed and pointed to the environmental importance of the species.
Ms Norman said she did not know who did the graffiti, but could understand the frustration behind the words: “Graffiti is illegal, but there are far worse illegalities that have been perpetrated,” she said. “As a means of rebutting what has been perpetrated in Batemans Bay, I find this response to be understandable, and reasonably justified. Those arguments are all excellent points.”
Later, Ms Norman suggested on Facebook the graffiti slogan “Batemans Bay hates nature” would look good on a T-shirt. Others proposed sales from the T-shirts could go to flying fox clinics.
