A last-minute try to Bombala has denied the Batemans Bay Tigers their first win of the 2016 Group 16 season, with the sides playing out a thrilling 32 all draw at Mackay Park on Sunday.

Back-to-back penalties late in game allowed the visitors to get within range, managing to cross over in the final seconds. The conversion ensured both sides would walk away with a share of the points.
Earlier, Tom Bollard put on an attacking masterclass in front of the Tigers fans, scoring all but one of his side’s tries to leave them in a strong position towards the of the game.
Batemans Bay Tigers’ Captain/Coach Mason Harrison said he was pleased with his side’s determination throughout the match.
“I was pretty proud of the way the boys stuck it out,” he said.
“They really dug deep and were unlucky not to come off with a win. We are still building as a team, and hopefully we can continue to improve next week.”
With a near full strength line up, the Tigers were out to impress in front of their home crowd.
It was the visitors who came out swinging in the early part of the game, however, scoring the first three tries for a 14-0 advantage.
The Tigers eventually hit back through Tom Bollard, who scored out on the right wing to get his side on the board, before Tom Curtis scrambled over just before half time to keep the Tigers within range. A successful conversion made for a 14-10 half time score.
The Tigers’ momentum continued after the break, as Bollard made some superb runs down the right wing to bring his personal tally to four tries, and give his side a 26-14 lead.
Bombala hit back midway through the second half, but the try was cancelled out by yet another to Bollard, leaving the score at 32-20.
The visitors continued to pressure the Tigers defence, and eventually found a way though, the conversion setting up a tense final few minutes.
Tigers’ fans and players were left fuming after two contentious penalties ensured Bombala retained possession close to the line, with the side scoring a try to get within two points, and then equalising the game through a successful conversion.
Standouts for the Tigers included Scott Belcher who came off the bench to have a significant impact on the match.
Earlier in the day the Tigers’ reserves went down 30-4, while the league tag were beaten 36-0.
