Insane, spineless not to use ‘mad mile’ upgrade
The recent announcement by the state government’s Roads and Maritime Services branch about upgrading part of the Princes Highway, south of Batemans Bay, known as the “mad mile” (or kilometre, these days) certainly is positive news for all highway users.

Any improvements to that section, particularly heading in a northerly direction, has to be appreciated.
Let’s all hope it’s linked to the works required for the long-planned spine road to intersect or connect with the Princes Highway.

Simply no excuse for paid parking
In the March 16 edition of the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner, Alan Brown raised the issue of paid parking in Batemans Bay.
I make no secret I want to see paid parking removed and offer these views for consideration.
No other town has paid parking in the Eurobodalla.
Businesses in Batemans Bay make large contributions through the parking contribution scheme, only to see their customers pay again.
The small amount of revenue raised by paid parking would be offset a hundred times over by encouraging people back into the Bay.
Every other town has commercial area upgrades paid for by the ratepayer.
Why is Batemans Bay singled out for unfair treatment?
Both Narooma and Moruya have seen wonderful streetscape works and park improvements, without the extra whack in the pocket of paid parking.
Claims paid parking encourages a turnover of high-demand parking spaces are untrue.
Today, and for the past 13 years or so, people feed parking meters to stay all day.
Historically, it has been suggested paid parking was implemented in Batemans Bay when the new shopping centre was built.
It was intended to discourage shoppers from parking near the strip shops in the main street, and to herd them into the new centre’s free parking. It was flagged as a temporary arrangement.
Long-time locals will remember the original paid-parking decision was strongly opposed.
Past councils have froced their will on the community, even against clear direction and protest.
This council has an opportunity to redress an inequitable decision.
The council is about to start a very exciting street revitalisation project.
Let's take this opportunity to remove paid parking and make Batemans Bay a most welcoming centre for visitors and locals.

Call for cyclists to take care on Bay bridge
Congratulations to the mature male cyclist who, while riding his push bike south on the Batemans Bay bridge walkway, caused my wife (who was walking home from work) at 5.10pm on Tuesday to collide with a bridge pylon and hit her head.
My wife, as a result of your action, also lost her drinking water bottle.
You did not even stop.
I ride my bike into town over the bridge and always give way to pedestrians, as the law states.
You are lucky that I was not with her at the time.
You would have found yourself in the river!
I am very irate and will make certain that when I am walking over the bridge, cyclists will give way.
