Eight cadets hit the course on Wednesday and learnt a mix of technical skills and etiquette while some played a few holes under supervision.
Most cadets start at about 10 years old although the club has had some younger boys and girls, who have progressed well. Former cadet Hayley McNeill is currently playing college golf in the United States, Michael Cook has won numerous club championships and played Pennant for Catalina, Olivia Wilson also won club championships and had a stint playing as a professional, and Mitchell Donlan and Jayden Pincott have both turned pro.
The cadet program runs each Wednesday and Thursday of the school term from 3.30pm. Cadets start on the range and learn the basics of golf from the club’s professional. When ready, the golfers progress to playing three holes, then six holes under supervision before they receive a cadet handicap.
