Five junior teams, a golden oldies side and its senior team will lock horns with their respective opponents.
It’s the final match day of the South Coast Monaro division two regular season and local bragging rights are on the line in the grudge match between the Dolphins and the Batemans Bay Boars.
Batemans Bay has found form over the past fortnight with wins against Braidwood and Milton.
In the Dolphins’ only match of the past three weeks, it lost to Braidwood 14-7.
Dolphins captain/coach Dave Gwynne said his team had a good performance against Braidwood despite low player numbers.
“We had a few guys that didn’t travel or had to work; no numbers on the bench,” Gwynne said.
“They scored their final try in the last 10 minutes and I guess we were building towards this weekend.”
Gwynne said he hoped a boisterous home crowd would assist the team in beating the Boars for the second time this season.
He also expected it and be similar to the early season encounter.
“It’s always a bit of a grudge match between the two teams, I’m sure it will be a fiery encounter at times,” he said.
“It would be nice to roll the Bay in front of a home crowd.”
The golden oldies match preceding the seniors offers Dolphins supporters a chance to see players and coaches of past years turn back the clock.
The over 35s side will tackle Cootamundra and coloured shorts will distinguish modified rules set for each player, according to age.
The players will toast their match with port and oysters and it’s sure to be a highlight of the day.
“It’s a great idea; there’s going to be plenty of guys hanging around and it gives us (seniors) some support,” Gwynne said.
The under 10s and 12s kick off with games against St Edmunds and Western Districts respectively at 10.30am.
Under 14s and 16s tackle St Edmunds and Uni-Norths at 11.30am and the under 18s taek on Radford College at 1pm.
The golden oldies start at 2.15pm.
It’s also the club’s sponsors’ day and two refreshments tents will be set up.
Following the football the club’s Two Blues Ball will celebrate 35 years with a reunion at the Tomakin Sports and Social Club.
“It’s going to be a great day,” Broulee Dolphins president John Edmunds said.
