First half tries to Cory Maddison and Max Harrison set the tone for the match as the Boars quick back line used its few opportunities to post points through counter attacking raids.

The home side led at half-time and controlled the game until the full-time whistle, to knock-off the leading South Coast zone side for the first time this season.

It was the second consecutive win for the Boars, who trounced Braidwood on the previous weekend.

Boars coach Matt Ryan said it seemed as though the season was starting to look like the year it could have been.

“We’re stringing together some good quality wins and we’ve got good numbers on the field,” Ryan said.

“It’s great to get these wins; just disappointing we didn’t do it earlier.”

Milton’s strength is wearing down its opponent through repeated attacking phases by keeping the ball in the forwards.

Batemans Bay had a few extra reserves than in past weeks and its forward pack rose to the occasion.

“Last time we didn’t have the power to counteract Milton but a stronger defensive effort (this time) allowed us to call on our strengths,” Ryan said.

“It was good to see the forwards come into their own which then allowed the backs to take those few opportunities in the first half.

“A few extra bodies allowed us a bit more rotation in the forward pack which helped the result.” 

Nathan Smith was the Boars’ best and drew praise for his strong running and defending.

“Ash Kenny certainly bolstered the forward pack and Steve Fitzgerald, as he always does, put the effort in all day,” Ryan said. 

The Boars tackle Broulee at Captain Oldrey Park on Saturday and are keen to get revenge for the loss on May 16.

“We’re looking forward to it; they beat us in the first round so hopefully we can return the favour,” Ryan said.
