MAURICE Van Ryn, the former CEO of Bega Cheese, pleaded guilty to five fresh charges when he appeared before Batemans Bay Local Court on July 13 by audio visual link.

During the mention, counsel for the Department of Public Prosecutions, Brett Diggins, sought leave to withdraw nine charges against the accused, involving sex offences with minors, which was granted.
He is now charged with three counts of indecent assault involving a child under 16 years and two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse involving a child under 16.
Van Ryn’s counsel, Mr Hazelwood, said his client pleaded guilty to the new charges, and asked magistrate Doug Dick to set down the matters for sentencing in the Downing Centre, Sydney.
Mr Dick also made a section 77 order for Van Ryn to attend the court on August 7.
During the mention Mr Hazelwood tendered a transcript of a news item on the ABC’s News website that Mr Dick agreed could be in breach of a suppression order imposed on the matter.
