A Eurobodalla Shire Council spokeswoman said on-the-ground works were expected to start at the Batehaven park later this year.
She said pre-construction work had begun and design quotations had been called for.
The playground is designed to encourage all-ability tourism to the shire, boost commerce and create jobs in the youth sector.
The spokeswoman said the $500,000 works were funded by $400,000 in grants and $100,000 from the council.
A committee, comprising councillors, community members and representatives of community group, The Bay Push, is steering the project.
