POLICE investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in a car on Wednesday night in Bermagui believe a man who fled the scene has left the area.
Far South Coast police Commander Detective Superintendent Peter O’Brien said police stopped the vehicle after receiving information from ACT Police.
“We believe there may have been some sort of domestic relationship that had soured, as a result of that information we were on the look out for that vehicle,” Detective Superintendent O'Brien said.
“At 8.30 last night (April 22) at Cuttagee Beach, police confronted the vehicle and the driver, who eluded police in bushland.
“A chase ensued, however due to the weather, the darkness and the terrain, the male person eluded police.
“The search for the male has been ongoing for the past 14 hours.
“Subsequently searching the vehicle, we located the body of a female, believed to be a missing female from the ACT.”
Police are investigating if the body is that of missing Canberra woman Daniela D'Addario, 35, who was reported missing this week, with Canberra man Josaia (Joey) Vosikata, 27.
Supt O’Brien said the man had not been sighted since he fled on Wednesday.
A NSW Police Media spokeswoman said no warrant has been issued as the identity of the man who fled the scene had not been confirmed.
A police helicopter, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and the NSW Police Tactical Operations Unit and Far South Coast police were involved in the search.
“His whereabouts (are) unknown to us, but I am fairly confident he is not in the near vicinity of where he was last seen,” Supt O'Brien said.
“We have covered a fair distance and I am satisfied that a comprehensive search was done of that area.”
Supt O'Brien did not release the names of the victim or the wanted man, or details of how the woman died.
“At this stage it is far too early to say," he said.
The matter would be referred to the Coroner.
Supt O'Brien said there was no indication the missing man was armed.
The male driver is described as being of Pacific Islander or Maori appearance, aged in his late 20s, with an athletic build. He was last seen wearing dark clothing.
Police are urging anyone who saw a light blue Hyundi Getz with registration plates YEF 19M in the Bermagui or Tathra area anytime between Sunday and Wednesday to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
