That’s the message from The Wind In The Willows’ director Sam Lloyd who will welcome actors tonight, April 22, at 7pm at the Bay Theatre Players’ Playhouse Theatre in Gregory Street.
Sam said she would like to remind everyone that there is “nothing, absolutely nothing half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats,” as Ratty said to Mole in Kenneth Grahame’s classic tale.
“Well, the boat has already been cast, a beautiful handcrafted timber clinker-built yacht tender, kindly loaned to the production by Captain William Lloyd,” Sam said.
“This boat has already starred on the Playhouse stage as a movie image in the tornado scene during The Wizard Of Oz, but this time she will sit proudly along the Riverbank on set.”
Sam said that casting the boat was the easy part.
“Now I have to find a Ratty to go in it along with all the other fabulous characters of the Riverbank, the Wild Wood and the Wide World,” she said.
“So remember there is nothing, absolutely nothing half so much worth doing as simply coming along to the theatre and putting your hand up to audition.
“It is so much fun being a part of a large cast, so if you have ever thought about joining the group, now is the right time to do it.”
Sam said that playing the role of Tattymouse in Can You Hear The Music, one of the plays in One Act Wonders, last year, reassured her that it was a “fantastic experience and challenge as a performer to be allowed to let your inner child come out and play at being an animal”.
