NSW Police are investigating a string of incidents and had not ruled out a connection between the crimes, Hume Local Area Command Detective Inspector Chad Gillies said on Tuesday morning.

"Over the past few weeks we have had approximately six or seven break and enters going down from Yass through to Murrumbateman in rural properties and some commercial premises," he said.

"We are certainly exploring the possibility that the same group may be responsible for some or all of these break and enters. That is something we are not ruling out."

Hume LAC investigations are exploring patterns that might link the crimes.

"They appear to be occurring later in the night and early morning. So we are increasing our patrols in those areas with the view to try and identify those responsible," Inspector Gillies said.

"Our main concern is to reassure the community that we are investigating these."

Police are urging the community to come forward with information and to ramp up home and business security while investigations continued.

"People, especially on the rural properties, need to tighten home security up a little bit. Make sure vehicles, garages and sheds are secure," he said.

"For people that own businesses in the area: do a review of your own security and perhaps change your patterns of behaviour to make sure you are less of a target."
