James Bundy, 16, and Robbie Hogg and Ben Katuke, 17, were selected in tiers three and two respectively.
The boys each played in the Junior Gold Cup last season and Hogg also played for ACT schoolboys and the under 18s sevens’ team.
The trio has been on the Brumbies’ junior to senior rugby pathway for the past few seasons and Katuke said they were selected for the Academy because “they are just checking up on us”.
“Academy is more about training, development and getting technique right,” Katuke said.
They each travel to Canberra twice a week for two two-hour training session.
One hour is spent at the gym with the Brumbies’ strength and conditioning coach and the other hour is spent doing on-field training to improve ball skills, awareness, technique and physical skills.
Each said they were not fazed by the travel because of regular trips in the past two seasons.
“I’d like to thank Dad and Mum for driving me,” Bundy said.
“Yeah, same with me,” Katuke said.
“Thanks to the coaches as well,” Hogg said.
Broulee Dolphins’ junior vice-president Karyn Starmer said she was “rapt” the club’s association with ACT Rugby Union could lead to greater representative heights.
“We’re really pleased for the boys and it shows you can go from Broulee to a national competition while still at school,” Starmer said.
The Dolphins are hoping to field a record six junior teams in the ACT junior competition.
Registrations are still open and people can contact the club at www.facebook.com/brouleedolphinsrugby.
