Batemans Bay copped a drenching 151.5mm over December 6, 7 and 8, while 80.2mm fell in Moruya over the same period.
The storm caused more than $450,000 worth of damage to local infrastructure, prompting Eurobodalla Shire Council to apply for disaster relief funding.
The federal government last week announced disaster assistance had been activated in the Eurobodalla local government area.
A council spokeswoman said that following the storm, council cleared vegetation washed onto Araluen Road, Nerrigundah Mountain Road, and Comerang Forest Road and Bumbo and Cadgee bridges.
“We also had to clean up the more than 50 dead sheep, one cow and one goat which had washed up on to Moruya and Broulee beaches, costing $7800,” she said.
“Since then we have been repairing the damaged road pavements and completing the other works.
“Several kilometres of Eurobodalla Road require complete gravel re-sheeting and bridge approach works worth $234,650 and two causeways on River Road, south of Nerrigundah, need to be reconstructed at a cost of $54,000, along with some other bridge approaches.”
The spokeswoman said the council was “very grateful” to receive the funds, which include $446,050 to fix storm damaged roads and $10,300 to fix damage to other public assets.
“The funding for Eurobodalla will reimburse council for the damage that had to be addressed immediately and will pay for the remaining works that will restore the other affected assets,” she said.
The funding is also available to primary producers, small businesses and not for profit groups.
Eden-Monaro MP Peter Hendy said program was just one of the ways the federal and state governments worked together to assist NSW communities after a natural disaster.
Bega MP Andrew Constance said the financial assistance was greatly appreciated by those affected by the December floods.
“Our region has endured some of the worst flooding over recent years and this support will aide in the rebuilding and clean-up efforts of basic infrastructure,” he said.
