A bewhiskered musician is prepared to get hairy chested over fuel prices in the Eurobodalla - and keep tabs on the issue for the rest of us.
Flautist Terry McGee thinks major petrol companies are flouting the will of the people.
Mr McGee has vowed to give Eurobodalla motorists a clearer picture of the petrol prices they are paying, compared to other regional and city motorists.
Mr McGee, 67, has lived in Malua Bay for eight years and, while he doesn’t drive much himself, he wants a better deal for those who do.
“To me it is a social justice issue,” he said.
“I read a response from a petrol industry
representative (Caltex Australia senior media and communications adviser Sam Collyer) in the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner and found it unconvincing.”
Mr McGee has been closely monitoring and gathering data from the Australian Institute of Petroleum and is compiling a regular fuel file.
“I’m going to present the data in a way that makes sense, rather than just comparing numbers,” he said.
He believes his background as a technical officer at the Australian National University qualifies him for this.
He said petrol retailers overcharged “because they can”.
“Until proven otherwise, that is what I am going with.”
However, he believed in people power.
“I have seen the results of conversation in the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner and the recent boycott of three petrol stations – the prices of petrol subsequently went down, so this is leading evidence,” he said.
