Michael O’Mara, of Wheelchair Sports NSW and vice-president of the NSW division of the Australian Commonwealth Games Association, met The Bay Push organisers recently at Corrigans Reserve to begin discussions about the event, to be held later this year.
Push spokesman Charles Stuart said Mr O’Mara was considering organising a feature wheelchair race as part of the Wheelchair Sport NSW and Athletics NSW competitive 2015 calendars.
Last year, junior wheelchair competitor Brad Pemberton and his mother inspected the proposed route of the race.
“Both Brad’s and Michael’s favourable impressions as to the suitability of Batemans Bay for the event and their reports back to Wheelchair Sports NSW on the enthusiasm of The Bay Push personnel will go a long way to getting the event on track,” Mr Stuart said.
“Michael O’Mara is also accountant for Wheelchair Sports NSW and a director of Athletics NSW.”
