Bega MP Andrew Constance last week responded to claims made by Community Life president Colin Walters, in regards to its homeless facility’s Hope Place’s inability to attract state funding.
Mr Constance said that since October 22 there had been an investigation into how the government could strengthen the relationship between the organisation and other locally provided services to secure brokerage funding.
“Hope Place, based at Sunshine Bay, has never received government funds and whilst they were unsuccessful in a recent taxpayer funding round, the Government is willing to work with the organisation to improve its relationships with other specialist services to secure brokerage funding,” Mr Constance said.
“Hope Place missed out on a recent funding round that is decided at arms length from politicians.”
Mr Constance said Hope Place was not the only available service provider in the Eurobodalla as there were other quality services operating following the Going Home Staying Home tender process.
“Specialist Homeless Service contracts were awarded to Anglicare, Campbell Page and SEWACS with $1.154 million allocated to the Eurobodalla, a further $302,000 was also awarded to MWACS under the Service Support Fund for transitional arrangements until January 2016, bringing the total funding to the Eurobodalla region of $1.45 million,” he said.
