This year’s Wear Orange to Work (WOW Day) will be accompanied by free cupcakes outside the Eurobodalla Shire Council Chambers between 10am and noon. The sweet event in Moruya aims to bring community attention to the services provided by the Moruya State Emergency Service (SES) unit.
“The community is encouraged to wear orange to work on Wednesday to show their support for SES volunteers,” Moruya SES spokeswoman, Danielle Brice, said.
The SES is the lead agency and the primary source of help during floods and storms, and its volunteers also help other emergency services with tasks like road crash rescue, vertical rescue and land rescue.
Ms Brice and fellow SES members will be present on the day to help serve cupcakes and answer any questions about the role of the SES.
“The SES provides a vital service, not just in times of weather crisis, but also in educating the community on preparedness before these events,” she said.
NSW SES Moruya unit controller Peter Collins said WOW day was an opportune time for the community to recognise the contribution of SES.
“It’s also an opportunity for people to consider joining the NSW SES, to give back to their community,” he said.
