TRIATHLETES in the Eurobodalla have been training hard in the cool, dark hours of the morning, or when they have time on the weekend in small groups for too long.

In the past few weeks Rod Bradley, Duncan Norris, Chantelle Lloyd and enthusiastic athletes decided to take the first steps in creating a triathlon club for the shire.
The Eurocoast Triathlon Club has been formed to link people from Batemans Bay, Moruya, Narooma and the suburbs in between to share knowledge, experience and camaraderie between the committed athletes.
Bradley, the club’s president, said Triathlon NSW had been encouraging people to form a club in the region.
“The closest one is Jervis Bay and there are a couple in Canberra and they’re happy there will be one down here,” Bradley said.
There are a number of experienced competitors in each town who do a variety of different events.
Bradley said the experience would be helpful for newcomers to the sport.
“We have some fairly experienced triathletes in the clubs, a few people who have done Ironmans, sprints or enticers,” he said.
“There’s a great variety of levels and hopefully they can pass on their knowledge.”
The club is welcoming athletes of all experience and Bradley hoped they could register 30 to 40 people in the coming weeks.
“We will have juniors with people up to 60 years old so it’s an all age’s group,” he said.
Eurocoast has developed a Facebook group and will have a website up-and-running to organise training times and events.
“Groups in particular towns will be able to put up notices on the website to let others know what’s happening and where,” Bradley said.
The club will be creating a uniform to build a connection for athletes when they train and compete at events around Australia.
“When we go away individually we see familiar faces but now we’ll hopefully have the whole Eurobodalla represented as a group so we can cheer each other on,” he said.
Bradley said an important aspect of registering the club with Triathlon Australia was insurance protection.
“We’re a licensed club and if we organise group rides, runs, swims or training competitions our athletes will be protected,” he said.
“They will also get race fee discounts and if you compete at a number of races the discount pays for your registration.”
