Moruya and Congo men Mark Harris, Paul Cook and Andrew Scully raced in the masters threes seven-hour race and their team, Tyred and Cranky, “had a blast” finishing second.
“The locals were in the minority and to have a race like this locally is a great thing,” Harris said.
Tyred and Cranky ripped round the track 11 times and its average lap time was 41 minutes and 37 seconds.
Moruya boys Connor Takacs and Scott Musgrove managed six laps for team M Town in the seven-hour junior race.
Their fastest lap took 40 minutes and 58 seconds and they had an average lap time of 47 minutes and eight seconds.
The boys finished third and were keen to prepare for another crack at a future Singletrack race.
“It was fun and there was good competition,” Takacs said.
“It was a good atmosphere and it’s great to have a ride, and a competition locally,” Musgrove said.
The Burning Quads, a Batemans Bay women’s team with Kelly Rowley, Kate Halton, Julie De Ernsted and Tracy Innes, came away with a win the fab fours category.
The Quads managed to do nine laps of the winding track and veteran rider Rowley said she was rapt with her team mates.
“There was lots of adrenalin and I’m very proud of them,” Rowley said.
Newcomer Halton said it was challenging but she would like to have “another crack”.
“It was pretty fun and not as intimidating as I thought,” Halton said.
The team’s fastest lap was 45 minutes and 56 seconds and they averaged 50 minutes and 57 seconds over seven hours.
Tomakin’s Paul Reynolds raced in his first MTB event and finished ninth in a field of 18 in the four-hour men’s masters division.
Reynolds started riding seven months ago and was happy about his performance.
“I came away unscathed and it was a fantastic event,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds said he spoke with veteran mountain bike riders from other regions who were “raving about the course”.
“One veteran said it was ‘by far, going to be the best track of the series’,” he said.
“The Euro cycle club and organisers have done well.”
Reynolds smashed out six laps at an average time of 45 minutes and 13 seconds with his fastest lap coming in at 39 minutes and 38 seconds.
Broulee’s Paul Morgan raced with friend Jason Morgan from Cronulla-Sutherland in the seven-hour masters pairs.
Morgan said he was “pretty happy” to finish third despite two separate flat tyre incidents.
The pair’s fastest lap was in 32 minutes and 59 seconds and its average lap time was 35 minutes and six seconds.
Morgan hoped the event would raise the profile of the track as “not many people know about Maulbrooks”.
“Cyclists are like a big family and hopefully it will raise the profile of the club,” Morgan said.
Batemans Bay’s Corey Dimmer did 11 laps in the seven-hour race and finished fifth in the solo men’s masters.
His fastest lap time was 37 minutes and four seconds and he averaged 42 minutes and 21 seconds while covering 132km on the day.
