Councillor Gabi Harding did raise concerns with bus, taxi, bicycle and pedestrian access to the site, however she voted in favour of the development.
Cr Harding said she acknowledged the proposal was an economic driver and would provide good economic outcomes for the community.
“The new site of the development is more favourable in my view as it is more central to the existing town centre that is Batemans Bay and has a lower environmental impact,” Cr Harding said.
Cr Harding questioned Eurobodalla Shire Council’s divisional manger of development services Angelo D’Costa on the access to the site for buses, taxis, pedestrians and bicycles.
Mr D’Costa assured all issues had been discussed with Roads and Maritime Services and council’s traffic committee and infrastructure department, and concluded that there was no need for public transport access.
“There is no requirement for public transport, as there is no proposal for a network to or through that part of the shire,” Mr D’Costa said.
“A pathway was not needed in our pathway strategy so Bunnings won’t need to put a footpath along the front of their property.”
