The under 14 girls’ team, coached by David Blewitt, played in Wollongong at Berkley Stadium and was undefeated until the grand final.
Up against a fierce West Wyalong team, they lost 48-27, and came home with a division three silver medal.
The under 14 boys’ team played in Bathurst and, like their female counterparts, were undefeated until the grand final.
The boys played hard, and some sustained injuries in their defeat at the hands of Illawarra.
The boys also claimed a division three silver medal for their 40-19 loss.
“Their coach Angela Rankin was very proud of the team’s efforts,” Batemans Bay Basketball Association secretary Kylie Armstrong said.
The under 12 boys, coached by Jason Funnell, went all the way to Gosford.
The boys had a “challenging” weekend as most players were “bottom-agers”.
“They’ve come away from the tournament with lots of experience under their belts,” Armstrong said.
The girls’ under 12s team, coached by Marnie Crabb, were competitive in their games at the Snakepit Basketball Stadium in Wollongong.
“Marnie was happy with the girls’ efforts,” Armstrong said.
She said five Bay juniors refereed at the away matches.
“Lauren Gruber, Angus and Lockie Armstrong, Tehlia Beattie and Chaali Elliot did a fantastic job over the weekend and were a credit to the club,” she said.
Armstrong said that the Breakers’ teams would play in the third round of the Waratah Southern Junior League in two weeks’ time.
She also confirmed that the Batemans Bay Association had once again been selected as one of 10 regional associations to host a Basketball NSW under 12s development day, to be held on July 20 at Hanging Rock Stadium.
“Nomination forms are at the Hanging Rock office and we encourage all players born in 2003 to attend,” she said.
