A celebratory atmosphere was evident in the laneway opposite Flora Crescent on Wednesday as more than 60 young people and supporters brought the second stage of a mural to life.
Youth Connections students at Campbell Page and Batemans Bay Public School students left their handprints on the wall in the lead up to next month’s NAIDOC Week celebrations.
Coordinator Debbie Grant said the work celebrated indigenous culture and brought diverse people together.
It was also a chance to engage with disengaged teenagers.
Michael McFarlane, 15, relished the chance to help paint.
“School is bad for me and this is a great environment,” he said.
“It is outdoors, it is creative and there is no writing.”
Ms Grant said Mary Wellington and Jermaine Connolly had designed the serpent, with Mr Connolly supervising its transfer to the wall.
Caroline Hobday, 16, of Batemans Bay said the day “brought everyone together”.
