Moruya RSL Sub-Branch secretary Barry Stephens said the group was hoping to carry a New Zealand flag, which members had offered to supply.
“Reflecting what is happening in Sydney, we are hoping to have veterans of more recent conflicts leading the march,” Mr Stephens said.
“We will have the Connaughton boys, Nathan and Mitchell, who have both served in Afghanistan.”
Mr Stephens said this year’s guests would come from a cadet unit from HMAS Creswell in Jervis Bay.
“All of the class will write an address as if it will be the one read out, and the best will be chosen,” Mr Stephens said.
“This will be very appropriate.”
On a sad note, the Moruya march will be missing a familiar face after the passing of Cliff Evans, a World War II New Guinea veteran, whose funeral was held on Wednesday.
It will also be the second year without the presence of the Moruya RSL Women’s Auxiliary which started in 1947 but disbanded due to lack of numbers.
“They are sadly missed,” Mr Stephens said.
For the third year, there will be a dawn service at Moruya, and this will begin at 5.45am (muster at 5.30am).
“It has been good; we had about 100 people last year,” he said.
This will be followed by the 9am service at Bergalia and then the main march back at Moruya, which will begin at the back of the Adelaide Hotel at 11am and proceed to the Memorial Hall in Page Street.
Tuross Head service
Tuross Head will also hold a dawn service at the Memorial Gardens at 5.45am.
A march will begin from Birdwood Circle at 11am and proceed to the Tuross Head Country Club for the service at 11.15am.
A contingent from ADFA will take part in the service.
Tomakin service
A dawn service will be held at the Tomakin Sports and Social Club at 5.30am. The Tomakin march will begin at the Rivermouth General Store at 7am and proceed back to the club for the service.
