Frank, 70, who graced the greens of the Eurobodalla last week, is setting a record for an individual playing at the most bowls clubs in 12 months.
“I’m a bit crazy and one time in the shower I thought that when I retire, which I now have, that I should do something useful for the industry,” he said.
“There is no record of any sort in the Guinness Book of Records about lawn bowls, except for the oldest ever player, so I submitted a template to them, and after about eight months the details were sorted out.”
He got some sponsorship from Henselite and Hankook Tires and, in his home state of Victoria, began his bid to play at a minimum of 600 and maximum of 800 clubs around the country.
He started at one of his former clubs Elsenwick in Melbourne and is hoping to finish in Daylesford, his current home club in country Victoria.
Last week he played at Tuross Head, where he got a drenching from the rain, but was unable to play at Moruya because of wet greens.
He played at Tomakin and then Malua Bay (his 155th club) on Friday, before heading to Braidwood on Saturday.
His travelling method and accommodation are one and the same; his Kombi van.
Clubs have welcomed him with open arms, the Eurobodalla clubs being no exception.
“Every club has been welcoming,” he said.
Mr Peniguel played a high-quality game against Malua Bay men’s singles champion Bob Wren.
Bob emerged victor and both enjoyed the game.
“It was very interesting,” Bob said.
“I’ve never been tied up with something like that before.
“He said he wins two games out of every three.”
