''Congratulations mate, hope you're not too sore. I'll see you tomorrow.''

It took just one text from his boss for Goulburn excavator Luke Turner to return to reality after he spoiled the boxing debut of NRL bad boy Blake Ferguson.

The former Canberra Raiders centre remains without a job in the NRL, but Turner will be back digging holes for a living on Friday after the ''biggest moment of my life''.

It's a far cry from hanging out in Shane Mosley's dressing room, and the media hype after he beat Ferguson by unanimous points decision on the Anthony Mundine- Mosley undercard.

''I'll live it up while I can for a day,'' Turner said on Thursday.

''I'll be back on the digger tomorrow. It will bring me back down to earth. I'm just like everyone else, going to work every day and trying to provide for the missus.

''I had one or two drinks at the Casino [Wednesday night] and only got an hour's sleep, the adrenaline was pumping too much.''

The Goulburn Bulldogs player was inspired by Ferguson's camp hand-picking him as an opponent, thinking he'd be an easy beat.

He was a $5 outsider with the bookies, but the 22-year-old was always confident he had Ferguson's measure.

''I never said it because I didn't want him to pull out of the fight, but I always thought they picked the wrong bloke,'' Turner said.

''I liked that everyone wrote me off, I wanted to prove everyone wrong and there was no pressure.

''On paper he should have been all over me. I was training three times a week for an hour driving from Goulburn to Campbelltown, he was eating and breathing it.

''I think he blew himself out a bit trying to knock me out in the first round.''

Ferguson unleashed a series of punches on Turner well after the first-round bell, which only inspired Turner more.

''Excuse the French, after that I thought ''f--- you, now it's on, before it was all talk,'' Turner said. ''He pushed and punched me after the bell, so I smacked him back.

''After the first round he had every chance to drop me, the hands were down and he hit me six or seven times.

''For him to throw everything he had at me and still be standing, I thought I've got this.''

Turner was labelled ''Boxcar Luke'' on social media during the fight, in reference to a homeless man who fought Homer for a sandwich on an episode of The Simpsons.

He had the last laugh and earned $2000 for his trouble, but is unsure whether he will pursue boxing or be content with his 12 minutes of fame.

''I want to watch the fight and see how I actually went,'' he said. If I'm good enough I'll keep doing it, but it's not something I want to keep doing if I can't do it properly.

''I've only been doing it for two months, I'm still a novice. I like my quiet lifestyle and don't get too caught up in it, but I'm enjoying it too.''
