The fire was reported about 10am Wednesday on the Corn Trail and Higgins Creek Road, 6km west of Misty Mountain Road. It is believed to have started from a lightning strike and is less than a hectare in size.
Wind has kept firefighting aircraft grounded, but RFS Community Safety Officer Marty Webster said ground crews were on their way to provide more intelligence.

The fire is close to the Kings Highway, the main route between Canberra and the coast, about 35km west of Batemans Bay. It is believed to be in steep, difficult terrain but a long way from private land-holdings. No property is currently threatened.
Firefighters are continuing to battle a number of fires as strong winds and higher temperatures hit the South Coast.

A fleet of aircraft tackling the Wirritin blaze, northwest of Batemans Bay, has been grounded as 100km winds buffet the fireground. The aircraft have been used to waterbomb and lay fire retardant lines.
The Cold Chisel Fire on Higgins Creek Road is now listed as under control.
The fire, located in the Murramurang National Park just north of Pebbly Beach, has burnt out about 200 hectares and flared up from a previous hazard reduction burn.
