However, the praise being heaped on her has nothing to do with her work performance.
Former Batemans Bay resident Wilson now works for Golf NSW at the Shelly Beach Golf Club and she used her inside knowledge to perfection on the weekend by taking out the state mixed foursomes championships with Catalina’s Kayne Carmichael.
The duo claimed the prestigious crown after a one-stroke victory over Andrew and Jeanette Arkins, who, ironically, are members at Shelly Beach.
However, Wilson’s involvement in the event ran much deeper than simply taking part.
“It was a funny event because I work at Golf NSW and I used to be in acco-unts but now I’m in events and this was kind of the first event that I worked on,” she said.
“So to go on and win it was pretty exciting.”
The victory – which came after the pair carded an impressive total of 76 – was a family affair as well, as Carmichael is the boyfriend of Wilson’s sister, Brooke.
And Olivia said that scenario made the win all the more special.
“Kayne and I are very close, so it was good playing with someone who I’m really comfortable with,” she said.
“It was a pretty strong field but in all honesty I thought we could win.
“I had no idea how easily we could win, though, but the way we played I think we definitely deserved it.”
She’s not wrong – two eagles inside the first three holes set Wilson and Carm-ichael up perfectly and they finished the front nine with a sizzling score of just 33.
“We had a really good front nine,” Wilson said.
“So we started off really well and that made us realise we were going to be in with a big chance.
“But it was nervy towards the end because we knew the best score coming up the last (hole).”
However, it all came down to the final hole and a brilliant approach shot by Carmichael on the 18th went a long way to securing the win.
The weekend marked Wilson’s second victory at the event, after she was also part of the winning duo in 2011.
Sunday’s win cap-ped off a productive couple of months for the Wilson family after Brooke and Carmichael took out the Catalina mixed foursomes event in July.
