The event, which featured Eden Marine High School, Lumen Christi College, Pambula, Carroll College and Nowra High was held over a round robin format that provided a stern test of fitness and stamina for the players.

Carroll College defeated Pambula in their first match by 12 points before suffering a seven-point loss to Eden in the second match. The Broulee-based high school then scored a last-kick win over Nowra High in the last of the preliminary games.

A favourable result in the match between Eden and Pambula meant Carroll College would take on their first-round nemisis Eden in the grand final.

A beautiful tap from the opening bounce saw Carroll College goal in the first five seconds and they carried that momentum throughout the match to secure a 21-point win.

Carroll College coach Paul Cullen was very pleased with the performance of his players.

“It was a magnificent team effort all day,” he said.

“The boys showed an enormous capacity to tackle and rebound and there were a number of junior players who really stepped up.”

Carroll College’s champion team was led by Batemans Bay Seahawks young-guns Matt Favetta (captain) and Nick Broad-McGregor (vice-captain) and also featured Justin Bellchambers, Daniel Hogg, Russ Hummel, Jonathan Hynes, Brian Jamba, Brendan Marshall, Ben McKay, Branden Read, Kegan Spellacy, Sean Strada, Max Thompson, Peter Thompson, Josh Visser, Nathaniel Visser, Rhys Voysey, Perry Wignall, Jacob Williams, Josh Woodford, Cam Thompson and Aaron Aitkin.

Carroll College will now represent the Far South Coast at the next round of the competition in Canberra on August 5.
