There have been minimal absences from tests at the Batemans Bay High School this week, which principal Neil Simpson attributed to the examinees staying healthy and away from the flu.
“It’s all been pretty smooth,” he said.
“We’re happy they’ve not been affected with sickness. The senior kids are quite sensible and look after their own health.”
There are 89 Year 12 students that have started their trial exams, a point that marks the commencement of the HSC, according to Mr Simpson.
Actual HSC subjects will be tested this week, including the Dance practical performance and French students’ speaking exam.
Bay High students Jessie-Kate Watson and Angela Pike finished their Extension History exam yesterday and were not finding the process too stressful.
“The end is in sight, finally,” Ms Pike said.
“It’s sad to see school coming to an end, but I’m happy to see the HSC coming to an end,” Ms Watson added.
Eating well, good revision techniques and having plenty of rest is the message to students who are currently completing their exams.
Moruya High School relieving vice-principal Martin Ind said students should not panic and take care of themselves so they do not burn out. The school has 85 students completing the trials this year.
“Leading up to it, we make them revise all their notes very carefully and speak to their teachers about all the topics they should be revising,” he said.
“Teachers are there and available to help them and it’s not the end of the world if they don’t do as well as expected in their trials.”
Mr Ind added results from the trials should be looked at in a positive way of allowing students to improve and maximise their results in the actual HSC exams.
