The under 14s were beaten by a red-hot Marist outfit.
“Our lads started very well dominating all areas but could not convert this into points,” coach Richard Hogg said.
“Marist are a very good side and after absorbing the pressure for the first 10 minutes of the match eventually broke out wide and scored some very good tries. Our defence was generally quite solid, and the final scoreline did not do the Dolphins justice in their commitment to the game”.
The Dolphins under 11s lost 26-5.
The under 9s also met a very strong challenge against Tuggeranong Vikings, and were beaten 65-5.
“The determination and enthusiasm showed on the face of all players when taking to the field for the challenge of taking on the ladder leaders Vikings White,” team manager Megan Remm said after the match.
Although it proved to be a more physical affair than the matches played in previous weeks, the Dolphins withstood strong pressure. It was a hard-fought game, with strong running and tackles from both teams.
Harry Young, Sean Smith and new recruit Brendan Barnes put in a strong effort in both offence and defence, and Nicholas Hogg put in some powerful runs to make good ground for the team.
However, it was when the Vikings were allowed to run the ball that proved the difference.
“Unfortunately the eventual scoreline didn’t reflect the effort and teamwork put in by all players,” Remm said.
The under 9 Dolphins take on Royals in Rivett tomorrow, while the under 11s take on Gungahlin at Nicholls and the under 14 play Daramalan at Daramalan in round five of the ACTJRU competition.
With a number of players nursing minor injuries, the Dolphins’ task against defending champions Daramalan away will be a tough one.
“Fortunately with a squad of 22 we will always put a competitive side on the field but against a Daramalan side filled with representative players we will be just looking to be competitive in set areas and continue to improve on areas from last week,” Dolphins spokesman Mark Berry said.
