Moruya Sharks captain and coach Jimmy Brown said that his team played well and they scored in the first two minutes.
“It was an awesome game, I was ecstatic at the end and couldn’t ask for more,” he said.
“The teamwork was awesome, it was a joint effort. I couldn’t mention one individual player as they all played so well,” he said.
“Everyone in the team can hold their head high, they did Moruya proud.”
However after their victory they had to wait six hours in the rain which took its toll for the pre-season final.
Brown was unimpressed with the opposition’s tactics in the reserves game against Eden, which the Sharks won 18 to 10.
“It was a very dirty game, there were dirty shots and an all out brawl,” he said.
Luckily the reserve grade will have a week off to recover as the side copped some injuries during the match.
“Aiden Stewart was elbowed in the first five minutes and Billy Elliot was taken out with fractures in his face,” Brown said.
“We missed Billy big time in the rest of the second game. He will be out for six weeks”.
This Sunday the first round of the competition will kick off.
The first grade will play Tathra and the reserve grade will not play untill next week as Tathra do not have a reserve grade.
Brown is feeling confident with some new players joining the squad.
“Matt Brown and Nathan Weir have moved back to the Sharks and experienced player Scott Melrose has just moved down,” he said.
“I think we’re going to win this year, we’re all hyped up.”
The Narooma first grade side forfeited on the weekend so the first grade had a week off to prepare for their first match against the pre-season competition winners Tathra at Tathra on May 2.
First grade coach Justin Zutt feels confident about their first game.
“We’re going well, with reserves Corey Maddison and Matty Evans to move up to first grade,” he said.
Zutt said that a couple of players were out due to injury such as Mick Griffith, but that the team was training well.
“Our fitness is getting there, hopefully we can put it all together on the weekend and come away with a win for our first game.”
“However, as Tathra won the pre-season comp, we think it will be a tough game at their home ground.”
