The final of the Minor Singles was a great battle between Sue Palmer and Erika Vogel. Susan got away to a great start and after five ends held a comfortable lead. The formidable Erika fought back over the next ten ends to close the gap. The score then continued to remain close with Sue retaining the lead all the way until the second last end but by a narrow margin, Erika won through. Congratulations on a great match which was interesting and worthy of a final, all the way. Well done.
Entries close for the Open Pairs on 20th October so please get your nominations in ladies.

Results of Social Bowls played last week are as follows:
Wednesday - Bert Dunlop, J.A.Brown and Don Cleeve were the overall winners with runners up being John Beach and Derrick Mattingley.
Saturday - With only a small number in attendance Bob Campbell and John Olliver took out the prize money.
To the delight of the Bowls Organiser the backlog of Championship games is being reduced. Minor Singles games played saw Hans Kubak defeat Stan Peck and in a close game Don Bradley was victorious over Mick Carlson. In a semi final of the Triples event the trio of Hans Kubak ( who seems to be unbeatable at present), Max Hayward and George Hardy were one shot victors over Ted Snodgrass, John Olliver and Des Parbery. In a round of the Mixed Fours competition Col Mazzachelli with wife Pam along with Bob and Di Fuge defeated "Dutch" and Gloria Goedee and Peter and Jeanette Hay. It was good to see new bowlers Di, Gloria and Jeanette involving themselves in a championship game.
Despite ominous weather conditions Friday Jackpot Bowls again attracted a good field. Highest margin winners were John Beach and Ted Bryant. Winners out of the hat were Tina and Max Hayward with Joan and Fabian Hasmann being rewarded as losers. The "Jackpot" of $300 was won by Mick and Pam Clark who have been visiting us from Bodalla of late. They shared the spoils with "Dutch" and John Bravo. The "Jackpot" reverts to $250 this week and members of all clubs are reminded they are most welcome to join us on a Friday with entries being accepted up until 11am. Friday bowlers are asked to consider the format of this competition while we are restricted to one green for about a month and submit their ideas to John Wagstaff or Bob Husband.
The Club was well represented in Round 1 of the RSL Pairs played on Thursday with Harry Wiles/Don Cleeve, Gil Baker/Ted Bryant and Ted Snodgrass/"Dutch" Goedee recording good wins.
Perfect weather conditions on Sunday proved irresistible to forty odd players including a number of visitors to get out on the greens. I am reliably informed that as usual a good time was had by all.
Members and prospective new bowlers are reminded that coaching is available from 2pm on Thursdays. Also members are reminded that a list is on the board for those wishing to take part in what is hoped to be a gala Melbourne Cup Day.

Following our game other members joined us to farewell Foundation and Life Member Marj Haines.
President Shirley presented Marj with a gift from us all before we enjoyed a sumptuous afternoon tea.
The day finished with the traditional Auld Lang Syne.
On Wednesday evening 17 members farewelled Marj at a dinner in the Tomakin Sports and Social Club Dining Room.
Many tales of yore were shared, the other diners probably wondered what all the hilarity was about.
There are some stories one cannot share.
Cootamundra's gain is our loss Marj - good luck and come back and join us for a game sometime.
There will be no social bowls next Tuesday 15th as our Annual Spring Carnival is being held from Saturday 12th to Saturday 19th inclusive.

Two ladies were approached on the green by a coach and asked if they wanted to learn to play bowls. One replied, only my friend does, I learned to play yesterday.
Till next week.
