However, over 120 people were all smiles as the club held its presentation at Hanging Rock on Saturday night.
“There was a really good buzz on the night, and everyone is keen to bounce back next year and get a premiership,” seniors coach Brett Pedder said.
“It was disappointing to fall at the last hurdle, but now we won’t be the hunted, and we will have the pressure off for the first time in three years. Hopefully we can bounce back like Geelong.”
Shaun Green was named best and fairest in first grade, with Pat Moore runner-up.
Captain AJ McMahon was named most consistent player, Daryn Stocks most determined and Luke Moore most improved, while the coaches award went to Daniel Peach.
Simon Wheatley was named best in fairest in the premiership-winning reserve grade side, with Jamie Kemp runner-up and leading goal scorer.
Damon Connick was most consistent, Ross Wilson most determined and Brent Guerin most improved. Scott Westbrook won the coaches award.
Matt Favetta was best and fairest for the under 17 semi-final team, while Josh Veneris was runner-up, Harry Hall most consistent, Scott Reaper most determined and Joe Cole rookie of the year.
Tom Nichols was most improved, Matt Favetta best in the finals and Nick Broad-McGregor won the Shears Family Memorial trophy.
