Lyndon opened the batting for Moruya and scored a half-century before taking five wickets during the Cavaliers’ innings as the Makos cruised to a comfortable 72-run win.
Earlier, Moruya captain Scott Sullivan won the toss and elected to bat and the decision proved to be a masterstroke.
Despite losing opener Andrew Foran without troubling the scorers, the Makos’ top order fired.
Lyndon paired up with Dave Paisley Topp and the two combined for a 133 run stand. Lyndon and Paisley Topp batted patiently while the Cavaliers tried just about everything to break the partnership, calling on nine different bowlers.
However, the introduction of Monish George to the attack finally brought about the crucial breakthrough. George dismissed both batsmen to give the Cavaliers hope of restricting Moruya’s total.
Daryn Lynch was next in and he picked up where Lyndon and Paisley Topp had left off, blasting his way to 22 before he too was dismissed by George.
A lower order collapse followed as Moruya chased quick runs in the final overs to go from 3-171 to be all out for 200. George finished with the impressive figures of 5-34 off nine overs and he received good support from Luke Dudman who bowled economically to take 3-25 off nine.
In reply, the Cavaliers lost a couple of early wickets with Moruya bowler Daryn Lynch removing Ross Wilkinson and Dudman to have the home side in trouble.
However, David Feletto and Tom McAlpin combined to get the Cavaliers’ innings back on track. Things were looking promising for the Cavaliers until Feletto was dismissed by Lyndon for 33.
McAlpin followed soon after for 43 and the Makos regained their ascendancy. Lyndon tore through the Cavaliers’ middle and lower order to finish with figures of 5-20 off seven overs. Lynch (3-13) and Nathan Wilson (2-19) also bowled well for the visitors.
Ben Johnson (11) was the only other Cavaliers batsman to pass double figures as the home side crumbled to be all out for 128.
Moruya’s Juy Cooper said it was a pleasing result for the Makos.
“We got off to a shaky start losing a wicket on the fourth ball of the day, but the partnership between Dave and Mark set the platform for us,” he said.
“We fielded pretty tight and bowled well which was good.
“It was really good to get back to winning ways after not playing last week because of a forfeit.”
