‘Twas the week before Christmas and all through the shire there were tradespeople tearing their hair out trying to finish jobs before the festivities.

For many, weeks of rain have left a slim window of opportunity to meet the demand for work to be done before the big day arrives.
Lawn maintenance people are especially busy, with the recent humidity stimulating grass growth as well as keeping them indoors.
“We are absolutely flat out,” Always Greener’s Evan Drain said.
“We need to do double the work we did last year when it was dry, and everyone wants it done before Christmas.”
Most properties maintained by Always Greener need mowing every fortnight at present, and once a week in the case of the Coachhouse Marina Resort and Clyde View Holiday Park.
Window washers are similarly flat strap.
Moruya Window and Cleaning Services’ Mick Frost has been working around the clock to meet demand.
“I’ve been working 11 hour days six days a week to catch up,” he said.
From November 1 up until Christmas Eve, he will have cleaned the windows on 160 homes.
It’s the same story for Broulee window cleaner Anthony Smith.
“I am beating them off with a stick,” he said.
“I lost a couple of days when the rain interrupted my work but I have kept my schedule.”
