Ms Beatty was named the Eurobodalla’s Employee of the Year on Friday night for the compassion and care she has shown residents throughout her 18 years at Edgewood Park Aged Care Facility.
“I was so shocked and surprised but it is recognition for aged care because aged care is like a specialty of its own now and it’s not recognised by all medical services,” Ms Beatty said.
“Aged care has changed a lot over the years. We’ve had to meet many challenges over the years.”
Edgewood Park Residential Care Facility director of nursing Anthea Kennewell said she wasn’t surprised when Ms Beatty was announced the winner.
“Nola epitomises what aged care is about,” she said.
“You’ve got professionalism, empathy and laughter. Without all of that, you don’t have aged care and you don’t have the personal fulfilment I know Nola has.”
Ms Beatty, who has moved on from the Denhams Beach aged care facility into her new role at The Glen Residential Care at Catalina, says she still finds the industry very rewarding.
In fact she says she has never woken up and not wanted to go to work.
“We are so privileged to look after people at the end of their years,” she said.
“It’s a great privilege that we are entrusted to care for them.”
Ms Beatty has spent 40 years in the caring industry, moving across to aged care from the hospital sector when she first started at Edgewood Park.
She was one of two people to receive a standing ovation at Friday night’s gala awards ceremony at the Moruya RSL Hall, with the Volunteer of the Year winner Dave Pheeney receiving a surprise, long-standing ovation.
