The students were selected from 19 applications received by the Foundation and will each receive funding to help with their university studies.
In his welcome speech, Foundation chairman Peter Woods said usually only 10 or 11 grants would be made annually - the financial limit of the Foundation - but this year the quality of applicants had been so high that all 13 students selected for interview were successful.
Since 1994, the Foundation has given grants totalling about $320,000 to 120 students - all achieved with the support of the local community.
“This is an effort of which we can be justly proud,” Mr Woods said.
During the first interval, last year’s 100th student, Amy Gilfeather, gave a highly entertaining speech on her first year at Sydney University, giving her do’s and don’ts to the 13 about to enter tertiary education.
It was a delightful and humorous speech, receiving enthusiastic applause.
During the second interval, Angela Davies played two pieces on the piano.
“She is an exceptionally good pianist who has won the recent award of St Cecilia’s Music Group for classical music,” Mr Woods said.
“The amazing thing is that she is a Year 11 student at Carroll College.”
With the main auditorium almost full, the large audience appreciated the experience of community support working in a very practical way, through the Foundation.
