With land at Braemar Drive, Moruya recently acquired, attention has turned to what services will be offered, and local community groups are concerned the Level 4 facility does not include plans for radiotherapy services.
ONE New L4 Eurobodalla Hospital Advocates group has started a petition for better local radiotherapy services. ONE says the Eurobodalla population is "already generating unacceptable levels of radiotherapy referrals out of the region. There is an absolute Duty of Care to our most vulnerable here that seems as clear as daylight".
Patients from the Eurobodalla seeking high-quality radiotherapy currently need to travel to Canberra or Nowra to access these services.
At the recent Meet The Candidates Forum at Kyla Hall, Tuross Head, Labor Candidate Fiona Phillips said it was a "disgrace" there was no radiotherapy services planned for the new hospital.
"That is something I will be fighting for to make sure that cancer patients do not have to travel further away than they need to," she said.
Andrew Constance was contacted for comment but has not responded at this time.
