Crowds of Australian-flag clad residents came lugging camping chairs and picnic rugs to support the Marine Rescue, eat a bacon and egg roll and enjoy the beautiful weather and views south down the coastline.
Marine Rescue PR Officer Ilza Svarcs said the event is a longstanding tradition in Tuross. The Marine Rescue have been running the event for over ten years, and it was run by Tuross Head Netball for many years before.
Local residents Enid and Terry Fuller and Rob Rickson have lived in Tuross Head more than 40 years, and said they have attended every single Australia Day fundraising breakfast since the events began.
"It's a lovely community thing," Ms Fuller said.
Marine Rescue Training Officer Blaise Madden said the Marine Rescue had ordered 360 bacon and egg rolls and 200 sausages sandwiches. The event started at 8am and by 10:30am more bacon had been ordered in after supplies ran out. Mr Madden expected they would completely sell out of all food by the planned 12:30pm end.
All funds raised contribute to supporting Tuross Head Marine Rescue.
Unit Commander Alan Blessington said fundraising was important for the Marine Rescue Unit to afford vital resources like fuel and maintain their their vessels and equipment.
"These fundraising things are so important to us," he said. "We do them to help the community."
"We do a really important job of saving lives on the water," Ms Svarcs said.
She loves running events such as the Australia Day Breakfast "because you get to get to engage with the community".
"We're out there talking to people and they're so thankful for what we do," she said.
"It's great to see the event grow, and there's a good atmosphere now."
Ms Svarcs encouraged anyone to get involved in Marine Rescue.
"We're just volunteers," she said. "I used to be a normal city girl and I've come down here and I've learned so many skills."
"Marine Rescue pays for us to to upskill and you can get a huge amount of skill. We do training in sea rescue, advanced resuscitation, fire equipment and all kinds of things. I can now look at the water and understand what's going on with it. The Marine Rescue is great."
