Sweeny, who started racing go-karts before making the jump to cars, will race in the 2022 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series with HMO Customer Racing, winners of the 2019 championship.
The Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series is a domestic variant of the hugely successful Touring Car Racing formula adopted in more than 30 countries and regions worldwide, including the FIA WTCR World Touring Car Cup.
TCR is the the most market relevant motorsport category in Australia featuring 2.0-litre, turbocharged racing versions of the high selling 'C Hatch' segment - cars that Australians are buying and driving, represented by a broad range of automotive brands.
Sweeny said he was "thrilled" to be joined the TCR series in 2022, which will be broadcast on Channel 7.
"It's a dream come true," he said. "It shows all the hard work we have put in over the past few years is starting to pay off.
"I have loved competing in the Toyota 86 series, and we will continue to race in that category as well.
"I am truly thankful for all our support and I look forward to now forging some new partnerships as we take on some of the best drivers in Australia."
HMO Customer Racing won the TCR Australia championship in 2019 with Will Brown at the wheel. Brown is now a full-time driver in the Repco Australia V8 Supercars series with Erebus Motorsport.
The opening race of the 2022 TCR Australia season is at Symmons Plains Tasmanian on February 11, 2022. Full TV coverage will be supplied nationally.
