The active cases of COVID-19 in Canberra hospitals remained at zero at the time of the reporting cut off.

The 11 cases comes ahead of the ACT's first weekend of relaxed restrictions allowing for the opening of nightclubs from midnight on Thursday, including those named as the initial exposure locations.

Masks are now only required at high-risk locations such as hospitals and aged-care facilities and caps on hospitality venues have been increased.

The public health emergency declaration was extended for the ACT this week, providing chief health officer Dr Kerryn Coleman to give community safety directions.

It comes as NSW records 250 local COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm on Friday, 36 lower than the previous day.

No new coronavirus deaths were reported in NSW for the first time in almost three months.

Victoria has added 1221 new infections to its COVID-19 caseload while recording another four virus-related deaths.

The state is now managing 16,671 active virus cases, some 405 of them in hospital care. Seventy seven patients are in intensive care, 51 of them requiring ventilation.
