A beautiful production, put on hold due to COVID, is now ready to step back into the light to entertain members and our local community.
The small cast of three are ready to perform, and Director of Children of The Black Skirt, Lyn Sterling, encourages everyone to support the show by buying a ticket and spreading the word, so the young emerging actors are rewarded with great audience numbers.
Children of The Black Skirt is an evocative play which explores history, reconciliation and the power of storytelling. In the Bay Theatre Players production, 3 young actors will take on the roles of more than 18 characters, ranging from sweet and innocent young children to scandalous and disgraceful old men.
Michaela Burtenshaw stars in the titular role, Black Skirt, and provides a commanding and chilling performance as the Governess of the Orphanage. After moving away from the area she grew up in, Michaela is so glad to be back and able to reconnect with the magic of Bay Theatre Players.
Michaela says of the production "I love the style of the play and the way the girls jump in and out of characters. I love the content of the play and how thought-provoking the script is."
Joining Michaela onstage are Scarlett Lane as "Old One" and Milly Shanahan as "New One". Scarlett is 16 years old and Milly is 14 years old, and both girls show talent and capacity beyond their years.
Audiences will be thrilled with this production, a celebration of the return of Theatre after a long and difficult period. Capped at 75% capacity, make sure you book your seat now, as tickets will sell out fast.
Children of The Black Skirt will run from Friday, October 22 until Sunday, October 31.
Saturday and Sunday matinee performances are available. Adults $25.50, Concession $23.50.
