Councillors unanimously voted to retain the remaining land on the corner of Clarke Street and Broulee Road in Broulee, known as Lot 89, and formally classify it as community land.
This is in line with a council decision in 2003 to reclassify the lot from operational land to community land.
At the time, due process was not followed and the land mistakenly remained operational until this year when the community began advocating for the original decision to be upheld.
Cr Rob Pollock thanked Planning and Sustainability Services director Lindsay Usher and his team for their work to resolve the issue.
"This completes a long and onerous process and I congratulate Mr Usher for bringing about the result that was intended in 2003," he said.
Prior to the council meeting Broulee Mossy Point Community Association (BMPCA) acting president Andrew Bain presented a final argument to councillors and tabled a petition signed by more than 500 people in favour of reclassifying the land as community.
"We are sure if the land becomes community land it will enhance Broulee as a village and will make a long term contribution to the shire as a place to live and visit," he said.
In a statement following the meeting, the BMPCA said it was happy with the decision.
"Congratulations to all 500+ people who signed the petition which helped convince councillors. Special mention should be made to Lynn and Andrew Bain whose hard work and diligence was key in this outcome," the statement said.
"The Broulee Landcare team will be working on the site this weekend to remove weeds and garden rubbish."
