Dockers' Ben Clough and Batemans Bay Seahawks' Tom Lassau were both identified by Academy head coach Cameron Bernasconi and named in the 16 men's squad - which also features Merimbula's Walter Blewitt and Samuel Griffin, as well as Bermagui's Tyge Matters.
Joining that quintet in the ACT-based squad are William Beardsley, Cooper Bell, Luca Drury, James James Hamilton, Griffin Hazell, Henry Holdom, Nelson Marks, Tiernan Miller, Morgan Quinn, Flynn Read, Hamish Saunders, Ethan Sawade, Cameron Terry, Ben Vardy, Lewis Weickhardt and Olivier Withers.
While Bomaderry's Mariah Vuckovic and Ulladulla's Ella Fegent have been rewarded with selection in the under 16s women's outfit, where they'll be joined by Freyja Bacskai-Ruffolo, Jayda Barnett, Chloe Brassol, Alyssa Brown, Casey Griggs, Gemma Hogg, Poppy Howell, Chrysanthe Karkazis, Hannah Kearney, Anica Kraljevic, Sophia Mills, Aca Mooney, Jasmine Motbey, Ashley Patton and Sacha Zerger.
From November 16, these squads will train every Monday and Wednesday in Canberra until Christmas, when the phase two groups will be announced.
"It's great to see a number of South Coast players being selected in the Giants Academy phase one squads for 2022," Bernasconi said.
"It shows that there is a strong pool of talent along the South Coast and the Giants Academy is a platform for these girls and boys to play high level football."
Coach Bernasconi added the Academy was running open trials for players who want to be added to the squads, with all details found here.
