Edna proves age is no setback to enjoying the outdoors. Her happy place is in her garden, keeping things neat and colourful.
"If you sit down and take it easy, you rot away," she said.
"While you're busy in the garden you are getting exercise, meditation and relaxation - enjoying so many things, like the perfumes of the flowers.
"You can enjoy all the seasons when you're out in the garden. It changes all the time with the things you pull out and others taking its place."
Her Kianga home is surrounded by a beautiful variety of plants.
"I am very haphazard; I put things in wherever I like and let them bloom," she said.
Edna says many gardeners set themselves a timetable, however, she recommends to "just get in the garden as you feel".
Not everyone enjoys weeding, but for Edna it's a pleasure.
"I like it; sometimes I am out on my knees, moving along weeding and forget what time is," she laughed.
She moved from Sydney to Kianga with her late husband Jack in 1982. They were excited to have a home with yard space.
"We had lots of fun making our garden," she said.
"Jack mixed the cement and I placed the rocks, so happy memories are in every stone along every border."
The most sentimental feature of Edna's garden is the big cycad revoluta, that was gifted to her and Jack.
"We had more, but donated them to the Wollongong Botanic Garden, and they made a plaque with our names to go with them," Edna said.
Edna said cycads were quite sought after and valuable. They can be male or female and are slow growing at first but can live for more than 100 years.
Jack was the founding member of the Narooma-Dalmeny-Kianga Garden Club, and Edna was still involved today. She said nine members were at the first meeting and now there's almost 70.
Edna misses the garden club outings and entertainment, and can't wait to travel to nurseries along the coast and talk flowers with members again soon.
