Fire and Rescue crews helped save a Wagonga Inlet oyster farm from contamination late last week after an incident at the Narooma Wharf.

Last Thursday, August 19, crews from Fire and Rescue Batemans Bay, Narooma, and Moruya, attended Wagonga Inlet just after 9.30am to reports of an oil spill at Narooma Wharf.
A Fire and Rescue spokesperson said a Hazmat team from Batemans Bay entered the waterway and assisted an oyster farmer in setting up booms to absorb the spilt oil which had travelled down Wagonga Inlet due to low tides.
"After some time, our crew were able to remove the booms from the water after absorbing as much oil as possible," the spokesperson said.
However, a Narooma man involved in the operation told the Narooma News that no oil was found in the Wagonga Inlet.
He also said no oyster leases were ever in danger.
It capped off a busy seven days for our local crews, who also assisted at a hazard reduction burn in Tura Beach, near Merimbula, on Friday, August 13.
